Official Canadian Government Travel Warning Against Travel to Nigeria
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has issued an official warning against non-essential travel to Nigeria.
A new travel health notice has been issued on Lassa fever in Nigeria. The warning is targeted for individuals or live or work in endemic areas (especially humanitarian aid workers and health care workers). Most travellers outside of these areas and groups should be at low risk.
There is a significant risk of crime, banditry, and terrorism in Nigeria, according to the Government of Canada. In particular, the United States government published an April 18 emergency message, stating that terrorist attacks may be planned against hotels frequently used by Westerners in the city of Abuja.
